Donut, 199? - 2010

Our much loved furry friend Donut died on Monday.

Superdad found him in a bodega in Queens when Donut was just a week or two old.  Not sure if it was late '97 or early '98.  We were not allowed to have pets in our Brooklyn apartment, but he lived with us there until we moved to Memphis, where he became and indoor/outdoor cat and got a little brother, Bullitt, who will likely miss him most of all.  The kids loved him, but Donut really loved the Lady of the House most of all.

He was diagnosed with a tumor in his belly a few months ago.  The vet said he wouldn't last long and that he would let us know when it was time.  On Monday afternoon, he let us know.  We had just returned from vacation.  We're lucky we got back in time to see him again.

He was a good cat.  He never met a lap he did not like.  We love him and will miss him.

Kids of Summer

Phoebe just wrapped up her first t-ball season. Her team, the Grace Saint Luke's Saints, were pretty good. But they don't keep score, so we're not sure how good they really were.

Showing off the uni.

Frankie scouting and eating some Nabs behind the backstop.

In the dugout. Where's the chatter?!

Just looking for one to drive.

Baseball is a game of inches and Phoebe's feet are still about 4 inches from the ground.

All hustle.

Team mascot?

Pogo and Phoebe are pen pals

We passed through Pittsburgh this winter and Phoebe hit it off with Pogo, our friends Rizzo and Hone's dog. Phoebe asks about Pogo all the time. She wanted to send a little care package and picked out a little toy just for her pal. Rizzo kindly sent us these pictures of Pogo and Phoebe's package.

Pogo checks the mail.

Happy Birthday, America

Phoebe was excited about the annual neighborhood 4th of July Parade and drew this picture. She predicted it would be the best day ever. She wasn't far off.

Some official looking stuff to get things started.

This Uncle Sam wears flip-flops.

Phoebe wearing No. 33 and giving a nice wave in the middle of the parade.

A well earned post-parade sno-cone.

No argument here.

Watermelon man.

Of course we had to take the trip to Jerry Lawler's firework stand in West Memphis. The Lady of the House couldn't wait to light the fuse on this:

Cutting up.

Shopping for fireworks makes Phoebe a little loopy.

Frankie hits the check out line with some tanks.

The amateur firework show took place at the Dunlap's. Our buddy Hollywood shows that he is in with the out crowd.

Blackhawk down!

Phoebe shows great concern for her little brother's hearing.

Two hens ready to be lit.

Safety director.

Little buddies. Not sure where Frankie is hustling off to.

It's casual.

Roman candles provide yet another touching father-son moment.
