First Day of School
Phoebe started kindergarten this year. After pulling two years in the lower school across the street, this is her first year in the big school and her room is right across the hall from the Lady of the House's classroom. Events like this need proper documentation (and check out Frankie snooping around as usual):
No back-to-school heels here - she's added about an honest inch since January.
With kindergarten comes responsibility, so we've stashed some food down low so Phoebe can pack her own lunch in the morning.
Frankie shows that he still has no responsibilities:

Not used to getting up so early.
Ms. Shannon - the first teacher that Phoebe has had that she will refer to using a last name. Don't let that jaunty little bear in the lower left corner fool you - this is the BIG TIME.
How big time? Get a load of that cubby! Go get 'em Phoebe!

Shore, Part 2
Of course a bunch of us went to the Ocean City boardwalk. This might have been Phoebe's favorite thing from her trip to the shore in 2008. We got there and she did not know where to start:

The Lady of the House and Frankie do some back seat driving on the carousel. That's Amelia and Mary M. up front.
Phoebe's grown enough since last time to ride the ferris wheel by herself.
Getting ready for blast-off.
The first brother-sister team in space.
Phoebe's first roller-coaster ride.
Frankie wishes Superdad and Phoebe well on their log flume ride.
The SS MiMi in honor of their grandmother who sat Superdad in these same boats at this boardwalk thirty-some years ago.
After the rides, we caught some Mummers strutting like it was New Year's Day on Broad Street and ate fried clams, Mack & Manco's pizza, kettle corn, Shriver's fudge, and frozen custard. Phoebe said it was even more amazing than she remembered. Lesson learned: the boardwalk does not disappoint.

Shore Vacation, Part 1
We went north to Jersey again this summer for vacation. We had not been since our great 2008 trip to Ocean City. This year, we stayed in Stone Harbor. We got a 6 bedroom house on 119 Street with a bunch of old friends from NY and their kids. We had 18 people in the rental, but it was pretty comfortable.
Having a pool out back didn't hurt.
But the best part was being a short walk to the beach. We had a really nice beach. Being the narrow southern tip of the island, it was not crowded at all.
It dawned on us this year that Phoebe has been to the beach every summer since she was born.
Frankie too has never missed a summer.
It was uncharacteristically hot while we were there which was OK because the water was ridiculously cold.
Not sure who took this. Probably Mary M. Some of our crew are in this shot. That's little Amelia in the background and Chris Larry and holding up either Sam or Otis in the air. More later.
