Camp Drop Off

We dropped Phoebe off at camp on Father's Day. Two weeks this year!  She went to a different camp last year that had one week sessions and she liked it so much she wanted to do an extra week this year.  But rather then got back to the same camp, we sent her to what would have been our first choice last year, if they had a one-week session.  She and 5 other girls was assigned to Cabin 4.  She was the only one from Memphis in her cabin.

The cabin.  No bathrooms, no fans.  Pretty rustic.  The bathroom is a short walk away.

While Phoebe was doing all the check-in stuff - like getting checked for lice! - Frankie explored the grounds.  Tetherball:

Archery.

Vegetable garden.

Canoes.

Teepee.

Fishing poles.

This is the view from the window next to Phoebe's bunk.

Checking the minnow traps.

Phoebe also had to suit up and pass her swimming test.  Yes - white swim caps are mandatory.

4 laps.

Treading water for 10 minutes.  She passed.

Then she had to put on her camp uniform - white shirt and blue shorts.  Old school!  Here she is at the nature center with a baby rat that had just been born.  The girls could handle rabbits, snakes, possums, etc.

The camp was amazing and no one wanted to leave - we all wanted to stay for the whole two weeks.  But Frank and Phoebe finally had to have their awkward sibling goodbye:

Nashville

Phoebe is going to summer camp in East Tennessee, so rather than spend 9 hours in the car round trip to take her, we decided to break up the drive by spending a night in Nashville before dropping her off the next day.  After checking in to the the rental, we grabbed some tacos for lunch.

The kids and mom spent a few hours downtown while dad and an old pal got caught up and hit a few record stores.  The Tennessee State Museum:

Then everyone met up back at the rental.  Chris Larry cutting up:

The kids and Dot the pot bellied pig they fell in love with.

Father's Day dinner at Nashville favorite City House.  The kids did great at one of the nicer restaurants that they've been to - it didn't hurt that they loved everything we ordered.

Post-dinner at Jeni's Ice Cream.  Mom is giddy!

The next day was Father's Day.  Working off brunch at the park across the river from downtown:

Bridge fights!

Dad Weekend

Mom was in New Hampshire so dad was outnumbered in Arkansas.  Goofin' in front of the creepy barbershop:

Phoebe and the HUGE trout she caught.

We had to find somewhere with a TV to watch the Belmont so we walked into town and had dinner and watched the race at the Pig & Whistle.  The kids loved their bangers & mash, but were very bummed out that there would be no Triple Crown.

Cruisin' Main Street on a Saturday night.

We popped in on the auction - guns, chainsaws, broken ceiling fans, masking tape, A1 Steak Sauce - you name it, and they were auctioning it off.  The kids got really into the fast talking auctioneer, the corny jokes, and all the serious bidding.

Back at the cabin for an ice cream sunset.

Phoebe loving her new reading light.  Sure beats going to bed at the same time as your little bruddah!
