We went to the cabin for Labor Day. On our way there, we almost always stop at the Dairy King for dinner because it is really tasty and right on the way. Then we read about a place a little bit out of the way that we wanted to try. The food writer is from Philly, so we felt like we could trust his judgment. The Hamburger Station was a little further out of the way than we thought it would be, but it didn't let us down. Delicious.
The also tried something new the next day for breakfast. Instead of the usual walk to the Corner Booth, we mixed it up and drove to Carol's Lakeview. Unbelievable homemade cinnamon rolls:
Frankie marveled at the size of his pancake and said that it was bigger than the Corner Booth's pancakes. Our waitress liked that. Strong breakfast, but the Corner Booth is still our place.
We hit the city wide garage sale after breakfast. We probably should have bought this goat.
Then we took the long hike up to the cemetery on Wahpaton Hill. We saw this bird house on the way. Well said.
Frankie yukking it up in the old cemetery.
Along the way we found all the makings of an Arkansas Bouquet - wildflowers and a used shotgun shell.
Frankie with his glider.
Another great breakfast.
Superdad did his best to honor the kids' request for kayak pancakes, whatever those are. Phoebe put a piece of bacon on one of her kayakers and said, "Look, a life vest!"
Throwing leaves into a big spider web.
Playing tic-tac-toe. We lost some of the red pegs so we used pretzel sticks, but Phoebe would start eating all the pretzels anytime it looked like she was going to lose.
And it just isn't a Labor Day weekend without eating watermelon in your underwear.
