Greatest Day Ever

What follows are some highlights of a Saturday that Phoebe declared to be "The Greatest Day Ever" when it was all over.  We probably did most of our usual Saturday stuff until we headed over to the Brooks Museum for the kite festival.  The kids made and flew their own kites.

Frankie had an octopus.

Phoebe made a butterfly.

And one of the kids' favorite bands played - Magic Kids.

After tacos and micheladas at El Palmer, we stopped at Jerry's Sno-Cones for the first time this year.  So did everyone else - the line was long, but we got to see all sorts of wild stuff while we waited.  There were guys speeding up and down the city street on 4 wheelers and a truck with hydraulics bouncing up and down right next to Jerry's.  Then some guys pulled up next to the bouncing truck and jumped out and started beating on the truck with a baseball bat!  Fortunately, no one got hurt, other than the truck.  Phoebe wisely pointed out that is what you get when you're showing off!

And then the real excitement started.  First was Frankie asking for ice cream instead of a sno-cone.  His ice cream cone blew his mind.  All he could do was stare and admire it and laugh.  It was like he couldn't believe we were actually letting him have something so delicious all to himself.

We finally made our way to the hill.

And if that wasn't enough, a Memphis firetruck pulled in full of firemen to get sno-cones.  Ice cream and firetrucks?  Frankie's two favorite things ever and the super nice firemen gave the kids the full run of the truck.  They even got to turn it on and off.

And before it was all over, one of the firemen went into a secret compartment of the truck where they keep the teddy bears for the poor kids whose houses burn down and pulled out a purple teddy bear for each kid.  Go Engine 24!
