Happy Mother's Day

We went to Hardy for Mother's Day.  It had been three weekends since we'd been able to get up there. With all the tornadoes, flooding, and closed roads, it had been impossible to make the trip.  But the old cabin held up well and we found it in one piece.  When we got there, our neighbors had us over for dinner and a movie for the kids.
 

We made the walk into town for mother's day brunch, if it is possible to have brunch at 7:30 a.m. We had to wait for the train to pass which of course made Frankie's morning.

On the way there, we saw all kinds of flood damage.  The river got up to 22 feet, which is about 6 feet over flood stage and about 4 times higher than it usually is.  The river covered the train tracks and the park and fell just short of Main Street.  Stumps and other debris were everywhere.

Finally, the Corner Booth.  There's no telling how despondent the kids would have been if the flood got up to this place.

The weather was perfect so most of the time was spent exploring outside.   Phoebe at the lilly pond right before her brother fell in.

I don't think this crazy moth moved all weekend.

Sadly, the canoe slip part of the dock was damaged by the flooded river.

But we got off easy all things considered and it is almost warm enough to go for a swim so there's really nothing to complain about.  Happy Mother's Day!
