We stayed at Nana's house in Elverson, but she does not actually live there anymore. She and her little sister, Aunt Jean, moved there not long after Nana's husband, Frank DiPasquale, died about 18 years ago. Aunt Jean had to move into an assisted living facility a while ago and Nana wasn't too far behind. It's amazing - these two sisters have now lived in the same place almost all of their lives, first as kids on Hector Street in Conshohocken, then reuniting as adults above Frank's corner grocery store in Norristown (where Mimi and Uncle Danny grew up, and where Mimi met Pop Pop when he moved in across the street and would come in to the store to buy bologna), then Skippack, Elverson, and now the assisted living place in Amish Country.
We went to see them three times while we were in PA. Not always the easiest situation for kids, but they did great. Phoebe and Nana:
Phoebe and Aunt Jean.
Frankie took a little longer to warm up to the situation.
But then he got going.
He helped them to open their mail.
And pretended to read their Christmas cards.
With Mimi.
Cousin Lori.
This nice guy played Christmas songs on the accordion.
The kids get some old school dance lessons from Popsy and Uncle Danny.
The ladies with Phoebe sneaking into the bottom frames. Very nice visits.
